Hi there everyone! I∩m new to this whole BBS thing, I just got my PC/XT connected to the net and decided to give this a try. I∩ve been looking at some of the artwork in here and it∩s wonderful! I∩m looking forward to being a part of this community.
Anyway, hope you enjoy the board. What neck of the woods are you visiting from?I'm visiting from Madrid, right in the middle of Spain!

PC/XT -- is that running at 4.77mhz?Nope. At some point, possibly way before I ever got it, it had its board swapped for a Turbo board with a V20 running at a whopping 8MHz! Granted, it lost its legitness as an original XT... But it does improve the computing experience quite a bit.
Welcome to the world of BBSing - chances are, depending on your age, you never even heard the term BBS until now.Thank you! I was born in '97, so if it weren't for some *Ahem* Image Boards I frequent on the Internet I wouldn't even have heard about BBSes. I guess they have inherited some culture from these places and so have I, so I'm a bit familiar with the concept.

Gotta give credit to TCP/IP-- I can't even imagine how much it would cost to dial in all the way from here back in the day.
Wow, great to have you here. Are you the guy behind "ilovethetwinfamicom" on YouTube? If so, looks like you've got a pretty awesome collection of retro stuff. Why yes, I am! Darn, you people caught me red handed quite quickly.

I guessIt seems BBSing is really coming back into the mainstream. I think it goes along with Retro Computing, but also a part of it I think has to do with the fact that people are tiring of the cold, impersonal, ad-laden, privacy stealing Internet. BBSes were communities back in the day, and people go to know one another. It's exciting to see the BBS scene come alive once again - and I hope this is a long-term trend!

I agree, although BBSes were no strangers to spam. Heck, I spent lots of time making and posting ANSI advertisements for different boards I called or cosysoped. :)
You have what us old farts call a AT system then. You probably have the 286 chip in there I would reckon.Nope, it's an IBM 5160 with a generic turbo board and an NEC V20 (Which lacks a lot of 286 instructions) swapped in. So technically it's still an XT-class machine.
Welcome aboard - and I hope you enjoy the journey and adventure!Thank you! It seems like this is the complete opposite of the Internet when it comes to joining a community.

By the way, is there a way to quote multiple messages?
I think there is a big difference in BBS "spam" and the constant spam we are subjected to on things like Facebook, etc. In the BBS world, if you are indeed spamming, the community could take care of it. You'd find yourself kicked off of boards, or your privs reduced considerably.
Yes, BBSing is more a community - and each "board" has its own type of community.
This morning I was visiting another BBS and I came across a message you wrote there about Vans. If I remember right, you said you still wear Vans you got in 1991 at a BBS meetup. That blew me away! Do you just save them for special occasions?
Yep! It was my first pair of Vans chex (the black and white chex) and nowadays they are WELL WORN, but every now and then I break them out. I have a much newer pair (because, lets be honest, once a Vans guy, always a Vans guy) that I wear day-to-day.
I'm wearing my vans right now
So high school kids
Will think that I can skate
I've got a degree in science
Yet shaking my fists in defiance
