    Tonight we also came under a telnet flood attack. I have upgraded to Synchronet v3.22 which has better defenses for bots and others trying to open lots of concurrent connections, etc.

    As of 7:10 p.m. CDT, it looks I've mitigated the issues. Hopefully everyone is able to sign in okay.

    I haven't noticed anything. What are telnet flooders? Just bots eating up bandwidth for no reason? Or is it a targeted attack?

    To be honest I'm not sure about the *why* behind it. But the *what* is simply bots repeatedly opening telnet connections every 5-6 seconds. They never actually try to log in, and I'm not sure they are actually attacks ... it's highly unlikely they would know what to do with a BBS. It's just automated traffic that overwhelms the board if you don't take measures to block it.

    Thankfully Synchronet v3.22 does have some good tools for combatting these flooding events.
